COURSE AND EVENT DETAILS

THE SWIM

Olympic  = 1500m (60 lengths)          |          Sprint  = 750m (30 lengths)         |          Tri It = 300m (12 lengths)
KIDS OF STEEL:  Under 7yrs = 50m  |  8-9 Yrs = 100m  |  10-11Yrs = 150m

The swim course will take place at Genesis Place Pool (800 East Lake Blvd NE, Airdrie) (25m). We will start 4 athletes per lane and you will complete your # of lengths of the pool. Volunteers will be on hand to count your laps and will put a flutterboard in the water when you have 2 lengths remaining. You will be assigned a wave # and start time which will be posted on the website & package pick-up locations, as well as posted at the race start. Athletes are asked that if they are feeling any trouble or difficulty during the swim portion to either raise their hand and a lifeguard will be there to assist you within seconds. We would like to thank the staff at the Genesis Place for their support of this event.** note the swim is 'continuous feed'  - after the first start, when one athlete exits their lane, we send another to fill their spot.  Be on deck well in advance of your estimated start time.

THE BIKE

Olympic = 33.5Km (2 laps)          |          Sprint = 20Km (1 lap)          |          Tri It = 10Km (1 'half' lap)
Duathlon = 33.5km (2 laps)

KIDS OF STEEL: Under 7yrs = 1.5km(1 lap)  |  8-9 Yrs = 3km(2 laps)  |  10-11Yrs = 4.2km (3 laps)

General Notes

**Due to traffic flow, the facility has requested that we use the pathway system to access East Lake Rd. Not ideal, but decent given our options.
**Both the sprint and tri it events will exit transition to the north of the facility along the pathway system. Athletes will walk/run their bikes to the mount line on the pathway (appx 400m). Follow the pathway to East Lake Rd.
** there will be no passing of cyclists within the park or parking lot when getting onto East Lake Rd. Please ride single file.
** Anyone posing a danger to themselves or anyone else including the public, will be immediately disqualified.
**When heading North on East Lake Blvd (from Yankee Valley Blvd), athletes will have the right lane closed for our use. Please keep your heads up at all times as there are 3 intersections where vehicles still can cross. We will have flagpersons at these points allowing you through, but please be aware of any vehicles.

Following East Lake Rd to the right, athletes will turn Right onto Hwy 567. Staying on the shoulder, athletes will take another Right turn onto Range Rd 291. Follow this south to Range Rd 270/ Yankee Valley Blvd and head West (right turn). A final Right turn onto East Lake Blvd will bring you back to the entrance to Genesis Place and the transition area!

Olympic distance athletes will complete the same route as the Sprint event, but will do two (2) full laps of the stretch along Hwy 567.

Exiting transition, KOS athletes will ride completely within the park on the paved trail system.
U7 athletes will do 1 lap, 8-9yr olds will do 2 laps and 10-11yr olds will do 4 laps.

Please keep in mind that the course will be open to vehicle traffic, and you are to treat this event as any other training ride and be very road wise while on the course. Vehicles will always have the right of way at intersections, and we will have volunteers to stop traffic when athletes are approaching, but remember you are responsible for your own safety while out on the course, and accidents can happen.

Please remember to look around you while on the course to foresee any unfortunate incidents that can occur. Remember to have fun on the course, and keep safety at the utmost priority.

THE RUN  Map

Olympic = 10Km (4 laps)          |          Sprint = 5Km (2 lap)          |          Tri It = 2.5Km (1  lap)

KIDS OF STEEL: Under 7yrs = 500m(1 lap)  |  8-9 Yrs = 1km(2 laps)  |  10-11Yrs = 2.1km (3 laps)

The run will travel from the transition area and consist of 1 (tri it), 2(sprint), or 4(Olympic) laps of the course. Exiting transition to the south east, athletes will follow the pathway behind Bert Church High School and onto the paved trail system. A hard left turn will take athletes north along the trail to a T-intersection. Turning Right athletes will follow the trail to do a counter-clockwise loop to return around the south side of the lake taking athletes to the finish, or to begin the next lap.
