Follow it past First Beach, past the Inukshuk all the way to the turnaround under Burrard Bridge. There is a water station at the turnaround point. Return the same way but just past First Beach you will follow the trail that heads to the right – up to the upper trail back towards the transition area.

Aid stations (with water and F2C) will be available at the exit of transition and at the Inukshuk turnaround point.

Get a detailed view of the map here –https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2012817

This area is the heart and soul of the race. Everything you do centres around this area. When entering transition from the swim, you must have your helmet on and secured before touching your bike and left secure until you rack your bike. When leaving and returning from the bike portion, keep your head up for other athletes that may be around you. Please ensure that all your race items are within your ‘AREA’. You will exit for the run, opposite to that of the bike exit. Follow the directions from all volunteers and you will be on your way!

Please note the locations of racking your bikes. We require 8 bikes per rack

Volunteers will be on-hand race morning to assist you.

The transition area is in Ceperley Field directly East of Second Beach. This grassed area will be enclosed and secured for athlete entrance only. The finish area will be just south of the transition with great finish line foods! The awards and draw prizes will take place immediately following the last finisher and confirmation of results.

OUR PARTNERS

Stanley Park Ecology Society

Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) – a registered charity since 1988 – began as the Stanley Park Zoological Society. Following the closure of the Park’s zoo in 1995, the society revised its name but continued with its aims of education, conservation and outreach programs.

In June 1997, SPES and the Vancouver Park Board entered into a Joint Operating Agreement that documents the nature of our reciprocal relationship. As the primary provider of land-based education interpretive services in Stanley Park, SPES’s role in the stewardship of Stanley Park is undertaken through a combination of:

  • Education
  • Conservation action
  • Research

SPES also advises the Park Board on conservation issues within the Park with an emphasis on wildlife, habitat and Species at Risk. The Park Board provides facilities including the Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon, the 2nd floor Dining Pavilion offices, and the Earthen Architecture Cob Popcorn Stand in the Miniature Train Plaza.

Grants, private donations and memberships, program revenues and service fees fund SPES. In addition, we rely on our dedicated volunteers, committed staff and board members and the generous support of local businesses and foundations.

Mission

Our Mission is education, conservation, and research rooted in Stanley Park.

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver was established in 1978, enabling impactful mentoring relationships where children and youth can discover their power and potential, in collaboration with our local communities. Supporting over 1,000 children and youth in our community every year through prevention-based mentoring programs in Burnaby, Delta, Surrey, New Westminster, the North Shore, Richmond, the Tri-Cities, and Vancouver.

The Vancouver Lifeguard Association (VLA) is a non-profit organization based out of the Metro Vancouver area. Since 2003 the VLA has mentored over 1000 youth through their indoor Junior Lifeguard Clubs and outdoor Beach Alert Camps at Kitsilano Beach and Pool. Within the VLA we strive to support and promote water safety education in the community, including providing volunteer lifeguards and first aid opportunities for major public events.

MISSION

The Vancouver Lifeguard Association provides social connection, valued experiences and leadership development for current and future lifeguards in a fun environment.

VISION

Our vision is a Metro Vancouver aquatic community that celebrates a growing number of lifeguards. We strive to develop through meaningful connections, quality experiences and embrace the positive values of recreation.

VALUES

• Integrity, Participation, Leadership, Community, Spirit, Health and Wellness

In 1983, Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon opened its doors in Shaughnessy. The original 13-bedroom house provided support for sick kids and families needing to travel long distances to receive specialized care only found in Vancouver. Over the years, the demand for this essential service quickly grew beyond what this house could offer, so construction of a new building was soon underway.

Today, we have a 73-bedroom house with even more services available for families, conveniently located near BC Children’s Hospital. RMH BC also operates a Family Room in Surrey Memorial Hospital  RMH BC is a place filled with hope and love, built on the belief that keeping the family together is an essential part of healing children with serious illnesses.

750M, 1500M, 3000M

NOTE: the course will be swum in a clockwise direction.

  • The 3km course consists of four (4) laps around the 750m loop. Swimmers keep buoys on their right. Swimmers will exit the water and run over the timing pad on shore to get their finish time. Swimmers will be responsible for counting their own laps.
  • The 1.5 km course consists of two (2) laps around the orange buoys.
  • All races will start in waist deep water, just south of the docks.

  • The starting area is very wide and you will seed yourself according to your swimming ability.
  • It’s hard to predict the water temperature on race day, but it has hovered within a few degrees of 19 Celsius recently. The temperature will vary throughout the course as well. We will provide the water temperature to swimmers that morning.
  • It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you allow time in the morning for a proper warm-up IN THE WATER. This greatly reduces the occurrence of panic and shock in the water and will help you have a successful swim.
  • If you anticipate a longer swim time, or are bothered by cooler temperatures, it is suggested that you wear two swim caps (a neoprene cap under your race cap provides the best insulation, but a silicone one will help as well).
  • If at any time during the swim you think you may require aid, stop and raise your arm to get the attention of the swim course safety team. You may hang on to one of the support boats if you need to. You will NOT be disqualified as long as the boat doesn’t provide propulsion. The boat staff will let you know if they intend to move you off the course.
  • If you wish to stop racing at any point throughout the event, please be sure to notify an official. It becomes a safety concern if you do not, as our safety teams will be looking for you on the course.

REMINDERS:

  • When arriving for checkin, please be aware that the adults will be racing!  Keep your heads up at all times when accessing the site.
  • One parent can help one child in transition for those ages 7&Under.
  • Floatation devices are allowed for age 7&Under and 8-9.
  • Parents are able to assist in the water, but note – the water is deep and you must assist other children in the water as well

AIR QUALITY POLICY

This policy has been developed by Triathlon Alberta/Triathlon BC and utilized by Multisportscanada to make an appropriate decision when the Field of Play is impacted by low visibility or forest fire smoke.

Full details on the protocol can be found here.

We will be utilizing the Air Quality reporting made available by each provincial government.

Alberta – https://airquality.alberta.ca/map/
British Columbia – Metro Vancouver – NW, British Columbia – Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) – Environment Canada (weather.gc.ca)
Saskatchewan – https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/7431e790acad443bb618bafe817416ca

With a Level of 7 or greater, the event will be cancelled.  We will notify participants 72 hours in advance with the current Air Quality levels, but as conditions can change within hours, a final decision will not be made until the morning of the event.

Here’s a forecast map

As we have applied for all permits, purchased all event materials (medals, race gear and related merchandise) and committed all registrations to the event, with no possibility of getting these funds back, no refunds, credits or rollovers will be available.
